Did you know that from 1 June to the end of August the John O' Groats Ferry runs a twice daily service from Inverness to Kirkwall, travelling by coach up the lovely coast of Caithness with a 40 minute ferry (weather permitting) ? What's even better about this is that it costs only £25 one way, and if you hold a Scottish seniors bus pass you only pay for the ferry ! What a great way to get to know the country better, and completely stress-free ;-))
There are plenty of ways to make a stay in Scotland memorable, but what do members reckon is their best cost-free experience ? I remember reading a post Lilly wrote about an elderly woman she'd met and chatted with at a bus stop - a small event but one which left quite a glow in her ! A surprise offer of a warm drink or a lift on a wearisome road, a revelation of a landscape that you just hadn't expected ? I've had all these myself but oddly, the most amazing was from a glance in my rearview mirror when driving in Assynt, to see where I'd been but was unable to see when I was in it !!
